The National Wetland Inventory (NWI) map data depicted here are for general reference only. The wetland data were developed using the best available remote sensing data including high-resolution aerial imagery and lidar-based elevation models. Every reasonable effort has been made to follow industry standard practices for ensuring the accuracy of this data. However, there is an inherent uncertainty associated with mapping wetlands from remote sensing data.
The Public Water Inventory (PWI) data are also included as a general reference layer. Public Waters are defined in Minnesota Statutes, section 103G.005. The boundaries of public waters shown on this map are approximate. The PWI waterbodies and watercourses were identified from scanned historical maps. The boundaries of these features were previously derived from various existing GIS layers including the historic NWI maps and DNR hydrography data. Limited editing and updates have occurred using aerial imagery.
The state of Minnesota does not make any representations or warranties with respect to the use of or reliance on these data. There are no guarantees as to the accuracy, currency, completeness, suitability or reliability of this data for any purpose. Users should refer to the metadata for a description of the sources and methods, the data limitations, and the complete license information.
While useful for planning purposes, these map data do not identify or define jurisdictional limits for any wetland regulatory program. These data are not a substitute for on the ground wetland identification and delineation. Persons engaging in activities involving modifications within or adjacent to wetland areas should seek the advice of appropriate federal, state, or local agencies concerning wetland regulatory programs and jurisdiction.
