Description: Mississippi River Corridor Critical Area (MRCCA) Boundary- DraftThis page last updated: 07/24/2018Metadata created using Go to Section:Overview Data Quality Data Organization Coordinate System Attributes Distribution - Get Data Metadata ReferenceSection 1: Overview Originator:Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) –Ecological and Water Resources DivisionTitle: Mississippi River Corridor Critical Area (MRCCA) Boundary- DraftAbstract: This draft dataset delineates the Mississippi River Corridor Critical Area (MRCCA) boundary as legally described in the State Register, volume 3, pages 1681 to 1691 This draft dataset is intended for review and feedback by local governments in the MRCCA before it is finalized and published on MN Geospatial Commons. This dataset corrects mapping errors in the MRCCA boundary used in the MRCCA Districts dataset. The boundary used in the MRCCA Districts dataset did not always accurately follow section lines and road centerlines existing at the time of designation. The MRCCA Districts dataset will be updated with the updated MRCCA boundary after LGU feedback is received and the MRCCA boundary dataset is finalized. The MRCCA is a land corridor along the Mississippi River in the seven-county metro area in which special land use regulations guide development activity. The corridor extends 72 miles along the Mississippi River from the cities of Ramsey and Dayton in the north to the City of Hastings and Ravenna Township in the south. It includes 54,000 acres of land along both sides of the river. The State of Minnesota created the corridor and land use regulations in 1976. Local governments administer the regulations through their local plans and zoning ordinances. The MRCCA is home to a full range of residential neighborhoods and parks, as well as river-related commerce, industry, and transportation. Though the MRCCA has been extensively developed, many intact and remnant natural areas remain, including bluffs, islands, floodplains, wetlands, riparian zones, and native aquatic and terrestrial flora and fauna. Rules regulating the MRCCA were published on December 27, 2016 and became effective January 4, 2017. The rules establish six districts, each with dimensional standards for river and bluff setbacks, and building height. Purpose: This data was created to be a stand-alone MRCCA boundary and to replace the outer boundary used in the 6/28/17 “MRCCA Districts” dataset. The boundary used in this dataset contained mapping errors, it did not always accurately follow section lines and road centerlines existing at the time of designation. The MRRCA boundary data corrects these errors and thus better represents the legal description published in the State Register, volume 3, pages 1681 to 1691.Time Period of Content Date: 07/24/2018Currentness Reference: This data is current as of July 24, 2018 and is rarely changed. The review process used current and historical spatial data for reference in creating this dataset including the public land survey, roads, plat maps, precinct maps, topographical maps and aerial photos to accurately locate features used in the legal description.Logical Consistency: noneCompleteness: This data set represents the extent of the Mississippi River Corridor Critical Area (MRCCA).
